Q1) What is a porcelain body?
A porcelain body is a special ceramic composition made using fusible raw materials to form a compact vitrified mass with a very low water absorption and very high strength when compared to ordinary Ceramic tiles. Porcelain body is a very much used in European country like Italy and Spain.
Q2) How is water absorption relevant?
Water absorption is the measure of porosity in the material. Lower Water absorption is a result of lesser pores and hence better stain resistance property and more compactness. Lower water absorption of Porcelain body also ensures low moisture and thermal expansion, thus eliminating the need to maintain gaps while fixing.
Q3) What is Vitrification? What is vitrified tile ?
Vitrification is condition resulting when kiln temperatures are sufficient to fuse grains and close pores of a clay product. Tile with water absorption of more than 0.5 percent, but not more than 3.0 percent is known as Vitrified Tile.
Q4) What is rectification?
Rectification is the process of sizing and squaring. This leads to almost perfect edges enabling tile installation without big joints. Rectified tiles are a rage in western countries, because of their hygiene value.
